A járműről
The Volvo 262 C, or Coupe, was the luxury two-door model produced by Volvo between 1978 and 1981, aimed specifically at the American market. The car was based on the 260 sedan, sharing several elements with it, including the drivetrain, chassis, and various design features. During its development, the Bertone company was responsible specifically for designing and producing the car’s roof. The model was exceptionally well-equipped for its time — power windows and mirrors, central locking, cruise control, and air conditioning were all standard features, while heated leather seats and alloy wheels also came as part of the package. To celebrate Volvo’s 25th anniversary in the United States, the company commissioned Newport Conversions to create a convertible version for the American market. Ultimately, only five open-top examples were ever built. The 262 C is considered a particularly rare model, with just 6,622 units produced over its four-year run. This model marked Volvo’s entry into the world of luxury automobiles. Although it was designed in-house by the Swedish manufacturer, production took place in Turin, at the Bertone factory. The car’s design was conceived by Volvo’s then-chief designer, Jan Wilsgaard, while the Italian company crafted the upper door sections and roof pillars in such a way that the car’s height was 100 mm lower than that of the 260 sedan, giving it a more distinctive and sporty appearance. Under the hood, the car featured a 2.6-liter V6 engine capable of producing 150 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque. This engine was jointly developed and produced by Volvo, Renault, and Peugeot, and was used across several of their models from the early 1970s onward. Despite its robust and imposing look, the car’s weight remained under one and a half tons. The exhibited model is a 1978 Volvo 262 C Automatic, originating from the very first year of production. The car arrived in Hungary from the Netherlands in the summer of 2025 to its current owner. The vehicle’s condition is excellent. It has never been damaged and requires no bodywork or paint restoration. All interior components and leather surfaces are intact and in perfect condition, with no need for upholstery work. It features a left-hand drive layout, an automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive. Mechanically, the car is flawless and needs no repairs. During operation, it produces no unusual noises, and the engine emits neither blue nor white smoke. Given its outstanding condition and limited production numbers, this car represents a true rarity and a genuine investment opportunity for collectors, while also being perfectly suitable for everyday use.
